Sustainability is a big topic right now in the garment industry. Did you know that the fashion industry is the SECOND biggest polluter in the world after the oil and natural gas industry?!
I've been looking for ways to be a more sustainable brand and when I discovered sustainable packaging I was all for it because it was something I could start doing right away. All Carl Wesley orders are now being shipped in 100% sustainable, recycled, and recyclable packaging. Here's what you'll be seeing in your future orders:
- Brown cardboard kraft mailers: Previously, I was using plastic poly mailers and we all know plastic is bad for the environment. The new brown cardboard mailers are made from 100% recycled material. They are curbside recyclable AND biodegradable.
- Recycled tissue paper: I like wrapping up all my orders in white tissue paper because it's fancy. My new tissue paper is made from 100% recycled material and it is curbside recyclable like any other paper.
- Clear plastic lining bags: Admittedly, this is the least sustainable part of my packaging but I didn't see a way around this. If the kraft mailers get delivered to your front step and get rained on they don't hold up well, so I wanted to include moisture resistant protection on the inside. The plastic bags ARE made from 100% recycled material BUT they may NOT be curbside recyclable in your town. If you can't recycle these curbside you should have a local grocery store or other place nearby where you can recycle plastic bags - or you could just reuse the bags for something else.
- New shipping labels: Although shipping labels are paper, the left over lining after you peel off the label is usually not recyclable. The new shipping labels I'm using are made from 100% recycled material and they are 100% recyclable (even the lining). If you recycle the kraft mailer curbside, there is no need to remove the shipping label from the cardboard. If you want to compost your kraft mailers, I suggest removing the label so the ink doesn't go into the earth.
PLEASE help me do something good for the earth by recycling or reusing all the packaging that comes with your Carl Wesley order!
The company I've partnered with to offer the new packaging is called Eco Enclose. You can get more information on all their products here.
Because the packaging supplies are more expensive, I will no longer be offering free shipping over $35. All orders to the USA will ship for a flat rate of $6; and all international orders will ship for a flat rate of $20. The shipping rates stay the same regardless of the number of items in the order.
Since it's something that's been on my mind a lot recently, I'm going to be sending out more emails about sustainability and being a sustainable consumer going forward, so watch your inbox for updates.
I always like to hear from you! Drop me a comment below and let me know your thoughts on everything I just mentioned.
See you soon,
